American Speech is concerned principally with the English language in the Western Hemisphere, although articles dealing with English in other parts of the world, the influence of other languages by or on English, and linguistic theory are also published. The journal is not committed to any particular theoretical framework, and issues often contain contributions that appeal to a readership wider than the linguistic-studies community.

Applied Environmental Education and Communication is a scholarly journal for both academics and practitioners. The journal presents the latest developments in the fields of environmental social marketing, environmental journalism, environmental education, sustainability education, environmental interpretation, and environmental health communication. It also examines environmental initiatives in governmental and corporate public awareness, public relations and outreach, behavioral science, interpersonal and mass media, and worldwide education and communication campaigns. The journal seeks to advance a synergistic relationship between research and practical information to help readers solve real environmental problems.Applied Environmental Education and Communication provides practitioners with specific recommendations based on experience and research. Authors are encouraged to report what did not work as well as what did and make suggestions for future strategies. Applied Linguistics publishes research into language with relevance to real-world problems.The journal is keen to help make connections between fields, theories, research methods, and scholarly discourses, and welcomes contributions which critically reflect on current practices in applied linguistic research. It promotes scholarly and scientific discussion of issues that unite or divide scholars in applied linguistics. It is less interested in the ad hoc solution of particular problems and more interested in the handling of problems in a principled way by reference to theoretical studies.Applied linguistics is viewed not only as the relation between theory and practice, but also as the study of language and language-related problems in specific situations in which people use and learn languages. Within this framework the journal welcomes contributions in such areas of current enquiry as: bilingualism and multilingualism; computer-mediated communication; conversation analysis; corpus linguistics; critical discourse analysis; deaf linguistics; discourse analysis and pragmatics; first and additional language learning, teaching, and use; forensic linguistics; language assessment; language planning and policies; language for special purposes; lexicography; literacies; multimodal communication; rhetoric and stylistics; and translation. The journal welcomes both reports of original research and conceptual articles.The Journal’s Forum section is intended to enhance debate between authors and thewider community of applied linguists (see Editorial in 22/1) and affords a quickerturnaround time for short pieces. Forum pieces are typically responses to a published article, a shorter research note or report, or a commentary on research issues or professional practices. Argumentation is an international and interdisciplinary journal that gathers academic contributions from a wide range of scholarly backgrounds and approaches to reasoning, natural inference and persuasion: communication, classical and modern rhetoric, linguistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, psychology, philosophy, formal and informal logic, critical thinking, history and law. Its scope includes a diversity of interests, from philosophical, theoretical and analytical to empirical and practical topics. Argumentation publishes papers, book reviews, a yearly bibliography, and announcements of conferences and seminars.
